Education, Disney, & Parental Choice

Education is important.  Education is vital.  Education is paramount. This has been the universal opinion of tyrants, religionists, economists, and zealots of all persuasions.  In fact, the importance of education is one of the few things upon which virtually all philosophies can agree.  The intentional and systematic training of our children is obviously a good thing.  What could be more important than the formation of the minds of our young?  What is more powerful than the opportunity to shape the worldview of those who will one day lead our nation?  What is more lasting, more enduring, than determining the content and perspective of the education of those who will one day bury you? You may be surprised to hear me say, then, that my favorite hashtag is #abolishgovernmentschools.  You see, too many people (most of whom attended government schools) believe that opposition to government involvement in an activity is equivalent to opposition to that...

Uncle Sam Ain't Yer Daddy! Betsy Ross Ain't Yer Momma!

It seems like almost daily I see a meme on Facebook complaining that the American education system is teaching reading, writing, and arithmetic instead of life skills.  As our nation becomes more aware of the broken promises of higher academia, social media is being inundated with a flood of articles promoting a focus on trades and home economics in lieu of Algebra and ancient literature.  Millennials are especially vocal as they remind everyone that their failures are not their fault because they were never taught how to budget, to pay taxes, etc. Well, guys, I have some news for you. Uncle Sam ain't yer daddy!  Betsy Ross ain't yer momma! The government, whether federal, state, or local, does not have the responsibility to teach you life skills.  "School" was not intended to teach you how to live your life, nor was it designed to make you successful.  An "education" is not meant to teach you everything you need to know.  It is meant to equip you wit...

Should Government Schools Teach the Bible? A Polemic

No. Government schools shouldn't teach the Bible to the children of this nation. Then again, government schools shouldn't teach anything.  Government schools shouldn't exist.  Government schools should be abolished outright. The government should stop taking my money and using it to indoctrinate the children of my community with humanistic and socialistic ideologies. There is no such thing as moral neutrality.  Jesus made that clear enough.  If you are not pro-Jesus, you're actually anti-Jesus .  There can be no middle ground when discussing submission to the King. As a Christian parent, I am called not only to protect my children from receiving false instruction, but to apply the truth of God to every part of their training .  There is simply no way that a Christian can obey that command while allowing their children to be indoctrinated in a Godless education system. Any education system that fails to give God the glory that He deserves should au...

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Public Education in the United States

The midterm election cycle of 2018 was one of the more tumultuous in recent memory, which is saying something!  In the end there was only a moderate amount of upheaval as some new faces and new ideals replaced old ones and the House went to the Democrats.  One of these new faces, one that has been both news-worthy and meme-worthy, is that of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.  As has been the case with her face, her name and faux pas have basically been unavoidable for the last few months. Ocasio-Cortez's election is significant because her victory represents more than just the triumph of a particular political campaign in New York's 14th congressional district; her victory signals a new political epoch.  She represents the rise of a generation fully willing to embrace political and economic ideals that directly contradict the principles upon which this country was founded. There is much that is compelling about Ocasio-Cortez, both to Millennials and previous generat...

Should We Put Armed Guards in Every School?

A popular Christian blogger has responded to the most recent school shooting with a radical, yet simple and common-sensical, solution.  He insists that it is time to put armed guards in every public school in this country.  This idea, while viewed as radical by many, really shouldn't be novel or radical at all.  Walsh's logic is sound when he points out that most public buildings already have armed guards and that schools being the exception really doesn't make much sense; that this is an unpleasant reality of living in a fallen world and that bad things, which should never happen, do, in fact, happen; and when he says that the real issue is evil, not politics. As much as I agree with his logic, I still must ask the question, is the solution to our problem really putting armed guards in every school?  That might be too radical for some, but it's not radical enough for my blood.  I have a far more difficult pill to swallow.  How about we get rid of pu...

Here's Why I Blame Government Education for Trump vs. Hillary

This election cycle seems to be leaving most people dissatisfied, to say the least.  It is difficult to find a voter who is excited about either the Republican or the Democrat candidate (hence the recent revealing statistics ).  Most have simply resigned themselves to the reality that one of the two will almost certainly be occupying the White House this time next year.  How did we get this far?  How did it come to this?  How did we get to the point where millions of people are at the mercy of the ruling-class elite?  I think America's government education system shoulders some of the blame.  Now, of course, there are numerous factors that have contributed to the joke that we call an election, but the education system has certainly played a role.  Here's a couple of reasons: 1) Government education has contributed to America's moral slide. We are choosing between a philanderer and a compulsive liar.  American's no longer belie...
