Abortion: Acknowledging the Antithesis

We are at a crossroads.  Our nation is at a particularly poignant point in her history, intellectually, legislatively, and morally speaking.  I believe that the next few years will have an effect (positively or negatively) on generations to come that few time periods have had. I happen to be reading a book right now that analyses the Presuppositional Apologetic of Cornelius Van Til, and I have found it to be incredibly helpful in understanding how to interact with unbelievers in the midst of our tumultuous political climate.  One of Van Til's emphases (developed by Bahnsen ) is the stark antithesis between the worldview of the believer and that of the unbeliever.  Regardless of the apparent points of contact we may seem to have in common, we truly see (or ought to see) everything differently.  Every single aspect of life, every fact , is colored by our greater worldview. Most people agree that 2+2=4, but we have different reasons for that conviction.  For...

Choice?

I work for a water treatment company, and one of the most common questions we receive is, "Do you perform free testing?" to which I invariably reply, "What kind of testing?"  We perform multiple kinds of testing, some of which are free and some of which are not.  The term  testing  is itself too ambiguous to be helpful.  So it is with the term choice . Liberals love to identify themselves as champions of choice , but they don't really believe in unfettered choice for individuals.  Nobody does, really.  In fact, Liberals, advocates as they normally are for big government, generally believe in limiting the choices of individual citizens far more often than Conservatives do.   Undefined  choice is a meaningless concept.  One is always choosing between one or more options, and some choices are immoral and/or illegal.  We all, even the most Libertarian amongst us, accept this fact.  If my choice impinges on the rights of my n...

On Abortion

I have written about abortion several times before (most recently here ), but the potential overturning of RvW would seem to warrant a fresh word on the subject.   Abortion is, simply put, heinous.  If the common methods of abortion were employed in the execution of capital criminals, human rights organizations would be up in arms.  Modernists have a particularly casual way of couching cold-blooded infanticide in confusing medical terminology and political slogans. The act of abortion is absolutely horrifying, but uglier still may be what abortion reveals about the hearts of men.  The Internet has been a dark place in the wake of this leak as pro-abortion liberals have shown their true colors.  When abortion was being debated 50 years ago, our medical and technological capabilities were significantly different.  While this certainly does not excuse the horrors our nation has perpetrated upon the unborn, it does explain the common notion that a fetus ...

Why I am not Voting for Jo Jorgensen

My last two posts were explanations of why I am not voting for Trump and Biden .  My Libertarian friends most likely agreed whole-heartedly with my criticism of both major candidates, but they may be wondering why I won't be voting for a third-party candidate, like Jo Jorgensen.   Well, this post is going to be the shortest of them all.  Why am I not voting for Jo Jorgensen?  Why can't I vote for Jo Jorgensen? Abortion . That's it.  That's the only reason. Many of my fellow Christian with Libertarian leanings can probably identify with me here.  Abortion is the reason so many people continue to vote for Republican candidates instead of the Libertarian alternatives. Libertarians run on a platform of unabated freedom.  You want to do drugs?  That's your right.  You want to be a racist business owner who doesn't hire certain kinds of people?  That's you're prerogative.  You want to own nuclear weapons?  By George, this is A...

Why is abortion such a big deal?

Before I proceed to answer the question proffered in the title, allow me to clarify something.  I do not consider myself a Republican.  I have never voted for a presidential candidate from either major party, nor do I intend to vote for Donald Trump this year, though the Democrats are doing their best to change my mind. So, why is abortion such a big deal?  Why is abortion turning conservative Christians into  one-issue voters, forcing them to support the likes of Donald Trump?  Why is abortion worse than other violations of human rights? The fact that I have been asked these questions, by Christians no less, is indicative of the underlying problem.  The problem is three-fold, and so is my answer. 1) Abortion is horrendous.  Abortion is an unfathomable evil.  In a bygone era proponents of abortion convinced our nation that terminating a pregnancy was simply disposing of a blob of tissue.  This classic tactic--dehumanizing the victim--was mor...

Abortion and Moral Creep

The day has arrived.  Liberals are now advocating for the right to post-birth abortion. Let me translate that for you, in case you didn't catch it.  Liberals think it's okay to kill a baby that has already exited the womb. This day of infamy, of ignominy, that liberals swore would never come, has come. We're not talking about political issues or personal preferences here.  We're talking about killing real, live babies that have been born into our world.    We're talking about real children in the real world being slaughtered instead of protected.  We're talking about vibrant heartbeats being ended.  We're talking about vulnerable little bodies being maimed and thrown in the garbage.  We're talking about red blood being spilt. You can try to hide it under whatever semantic guise you want, but that's not healthcare--that's murder. Hippocratic oath, anyone?  More like hypocritical. There is an ineffable darkness in the soul of a med...

When Abortion Becomes a Deflection Mechanism

I hate abortion.  I really do.  My mother was a pro-life warrior until the day she died, which is one of the only reasons I exist .  So as you read this, don't think that I am supporting abortion in any imaginable way. That being said, pro-life advocates have a problem.  You see, we take every possible issue and we make it about abortion.  Gun control?  Abortion.  Immigration?  Abortion.  Donald Trump sleeping with porn stars (even though there was no sleeping involved)?  Abortion.  Every time an issue is brought up for discussion, we just remind liberals about abortion like it's some sort of trump card (pun partially intended).  We act like abortion ends every conversation about any political, cultural, or moral issue.  Again, let me clarify.  There is nothing wrong with pointing out moral and intellectual inconsistencies.  I think it's a good thing to do, both as an evangelistic tool and as a debate tactic...

Abortion and the Supreme Court

Another decision handed down by the Supreme Court of the United States of America, another dagger in the heart of freedom.  What's new?  It's almost redundant at this point.  It's becoming difficult to comment on the implications of decisions like this because they are so common and one-sided.  It's easy to miss the significance, but rest assured, there is much for us to learn from these recent events.  For those of you who are uninformed (or simply unconcerned), the Supreme Court decided (in a 5-3 vote) that Texas's new law that regulated abortion clinics was too restrictive.  Yeah, that's the point.  Anyway, let's take a look at the implications of this:     1) It's a game.  The political process is a game.  The Supreme Court votes are a game.  Washington D.C. is one big game.  We all know it.  The fact that we have justices who are outspokenly pro-choice voting on this sort of issue is ridiculou...
