We All Know

We all know what's going on. We all know that Washington is full of criminals. We all know that fiscal responsibility is a laughable, distant memory. We all know that politicians pretend to care about us while enriching themselves. We all know that our political process is a partisan joke. We all know that our economy is a house of cards, endlessly tottering on the edge of collapse. So, we make memes. We make memes about toilet paper. We make memes about Jeffrey Epstein and Twisted Tea. We watch cat videos.  We watch sports while drinking light beer and spiked seltzer. We debate whether Jordan or LeBron is the GOAT while Western Civilization crumbles around us. We all know. Or maybe we don't. Maybe there are people out there who are just that blind.  Maybe there are sheep out there longing to be herded. Maybe there are zealous adherents to the religion of politics, worshipping at the feet of politician priests.  I'm not sure which is worse.

Some Thoughts on Economics

I was contemplating economics the other day while taking a shower.  Elections naturally bring up this topic, so it's been jingling around my head, and I do some of my best thinking in the shower.  Here are some of the random thoughts that I had. 1) You will always have poor people.   You know what?  Our discussions of economics and politics will be much simpler if we come to terms with this reality.  Poor people have always existed, and poor people will always exist.  As a poor person (by first-world standards, anyway), I am okay with that.  It simply is the way that the world is. Why, you ask, must it be this way?  Well, I can give you at least three reasons.  Firstly, some poor people like being poor.  They might not like being poor per se, but they would rather remain poor than do what is necessary to lift themselves out of poverty.  Politicians can talk about equality and social justice, but it is inescapable that every soc...

What's the Use with Politics Anyway?

Ah, politics.  It dominates the headlines.  It makes us want to pull our hair out.  It epitomizes the term futility .  It reveals the good in men, but also divulges their basest instincts.  It brings us together in ways that few other things can, and yet, it tears us apart.  Those united by blood, faith, nationality, and ethnicity find themselves at each others' throats when it comes to politics.  More money is spent and blood spilt over politics than nearly anything else in this world.  People love money.  They love power. They want to control other people.  These are inescapable realities of human nature.  The more things change, the more they stay the same.  At the end of election season (is there an end?) it's easy to find yourself wondering what use there is in participating in the political process at all.  We're told that we have to vote.  We have to voice our opinions.  We have to [fill in ...

Hillary Clinton and the State of American Politics

Politics--it's a running joke, really.  Sure, there are those zealous few who believe in the American political system, but they are quickly becoming extinct.  This is the group that believes that one vote matters and that politicians actually care.  These people are being replaced by a generation of disillusioned Millennials who, regardless of the platform they prefer, are beginning to recognize the stronghold that the establishment has over the political process.  Politicians are seen for what they are--money-hungry pawns of the elite class.  Oh, there are a few who are honest and are trying to help their constituents (Ron Paul, for instance), but they are few and far between.  After all, that kind of person can only survive for so long in a political environment that seeks to stifle free-thought and decentralization (see Ron Paul).     Our political environment is, perhaps, most clearly evidenced by Hillary Clinton and her laund...

Psalm 94/Politics...

1 O LORD God, to whom vengeance belongeth; O God, to whom vengeance belongeth, shew thyself. 2 Lift up thyself, thou judge of the earth: render a reward to the proud. 3 LORD, how long shall the wicked, how long shall the wicked triumph? 4 How long  shall they utter  and  speak hard things?  and  all the workers of iniquity boast themselves? 5 They break in pieces thy people, O LORD, and afflict thine heritage. 6 They slay the widow and the stranger, and murder the fatherless. 7 Yet they say, The LORD shall not see, neither shall the God of Jacob regard  it . 8 Understand, ye brutish among the people: and  ye  fools, when will ye be wise? 9 He that planted the ear, shall he not hear? he that formed the eye, shall he not see? 10 He that chastiseth the heathen, shall not he correct? he that teacheth man knowledge,  shall not he know ? 11 The LORD knoweth the thoughts of man, that they  are  vanity. ...
