"For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ."
Here comes a rant.
Firstly, why do we think that it's okay that we can splinter our lives and give one section to God and keep one of them for ourselves? We must give ourselves entirely over to God. There is no such thing as a secular/religious dinstinction. It is about as Biblical as the concept of adolescence! All of life is religious. All of what we think, do, and say ought to be regulated by God's commandments and principles.
Secondly, why do we still believe in this farce known as neutrality? Supposedly God doesn't care about our entertainment, or our employment, or, for Pete's sake, our education! Why do still have our kids in a school system that has banned God? What kind of witnessing can we do when we begin by compromising God's standards? It's not okay simply to say that your local school has many Christian faculty members. God requires not neutrality or passivity in education, but an education system that exalts and glorifies Him. If your children are attending a state funded school (even privately run, chartered schools), then they are being taught from state certified textbooks. These textbooks ignore God. Not mentioning God negatively is not good enough (although I think we all know these do). Implying (or explicitly saying it) that education is possible apart from knowledge of God is dishonoring and blasphemous to our God, in whom we live and move and have our being.
This principle applies at work and at home, too. It's not enough to hope that the topic of God never comes up. We are to active Christians in every environment. I'm not suggesting that we "force our religion down their throats." What I am suggesting is that our words and our actions, wherever we may be, must declare the truth that there is a God and He is watching!
Back to public schools. How can we fulfill this verse of Scripture by telling public schools it's okay that they hate God? We don't actually say this, but we demonstrate it by accepting the free (so called) education they provide. So you speak out against evolution? Well, do you speak out in math and social studies, too? God is sovereign over those as well and must be acknowledged when studying them. Any thought that opposes God must be rejected!
Why attend a school where you have to disagree constantly with your teachers? That's like attending a Catholic Church, just because you live next door. We must remember that kids go to school to learn, not to witness. I'm sick and stinkin' tired of that excuse (which is exactly what it is)! It's a justification. Kids aren't missionaries! We don't send our soldiers over to Iraq to learn how to fight from terrorists, do we? Well, we do with our kids. Kids don't teach--teachers do. Saying otherwise is nonsense. I know, money talks. That's what's really important. And football is, too. And opportunities for careers that earn a ton of money. That's the heart of the matter and we all know it.
I'm not saying we should evangelize. Kids, feel free to go to public schools after hours and evangelize! Tell them about Christian and home schools. But kids go to school learn--that is the simple truth of the matter, and at public schools God is banned. Why is this even an issue? Who can really say that God wants His children in schools that hate Him? Education of children is a big issue to God. Children are impressionable. What you teach them they will believe, and that is why training them properly is so important. Telling yourself that they will witness to other kids and teachers and that you can supplement their education at home with the Bible simply isn't enough.
My rant is over.
