Demolished Church Buildings are the Seed of the Church

The Church of Jesus Christ is under attack!  From Kenya to Nigeria to  China , the enemies of Jesus Christ are aggressively persecuting His people.  The mainstream media, while highlighting terror perpetrated against Muslims , has largely failed to publicize the systematic persecution of Christians throughout the world.  While American Christians like to think of themselves as persecuted, we haven't yet experienced anything approaching this level of hostility.  We are certainly not as popular or influential as in past centuries, but we have not yet shed our blood for our faith. Recently emerging in the news is the story of a large church building being  destroyed in China by the Chine government.  Something about this story feels symbolic.  Not only is the Chinese government trying to regulate and physically intimidate the Church out of existence, but it's literally destroying the buildings where Christians gather.  Nor is this by any m...

Public Education in a Pluralistic Society

Education has been in the news, or at least in the memes, of late.  Some have expressed disgust at New Jersey requiring schools to teach LGBT history, while Trump's support for teaching the Bible in schools has received varied responses.  It seems the liberals are getting more liberal, while the conservatives are trying to maintain some semblance of conservatism, which, by contrast, makes them look that much more conservative.  Our ideologies are becoming more extreme, or at least the Internet makes it seem that way. Lines are being drawn, and nowhere is more apparent than in academia.  Education has been, is becoming, and will continue to be a premier ideological battleground as each group seeks to impress its worldview on the youth of this nation.  After all, children are impressionable.  Children are malleable.  Children are sponges whose ability to absorb information and habits put adults to shame. It is impossible to deny the significance of t...

AOC & The Green New Deal

For the past week or two I have been digesting the summary of the Green New Deal published (and then pulled back ) by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.  The GND is basically the New Deal  (as if that was a success the first time around!) injected with steroids and bathed in envirofriendly psychobabble.  It's crazy.  It's, like, literally insane.  Listing all the reasons why is beyond the scope of this post, so I'll just let you read it  here .  I wanted to post the summary released by AOC, but I can no longer find it online.  Her summary was so far left that even her party was afraid to be associated with it.  It basically distilled all the most shocking concepts of the GND into bite-size, honest little nuggets.  You can find several assessments of it on various websites. After consideration, here are my observations about AOC and the Green New Deal. First of all, it is clear that AOC believes that nothing good can be done if the government...

Should Government Schools Teach the Bible? A Polemic

No. Government schools shouldn't teach the Bible to the children of this nation. Then again, government schools shouldn't teach anything.  Government schools shouldn't exist.  Government schools should be abolished outright. The government should stop taking my money and using it to indoctrinate the children of my community with humanistic and socialistic ideologies. There is no such thing as moral neutrality.  Jesus made that clear enough.  If you are not pro-Jesus, you're actually anti-Jesus .  There can be no middle ground when discussing submission to the King. As a Christian parent, I am called not only to protect my children from receiving false instruction, but to apply the truth of God to every part of their training .  There is simply no way that a Christian can obey that command while allowing their children to be indoctrinated in a Godless education system. Any education system that fails to give God the glory that He deserves should au...

Abortion and Moral Creep

The day has arrived.  Liberals are now advocating for the right to post-birth abortion. Let me translate that for you, in case you didn't catch it.  Liberals think it's okay to kill a baby that has already exited the womb. This day of infamy, of ignominy, that liberals swore would never come, has come. We're not talking about political issues or personal preferences here.  We're talking about killing real, live babies that have been born into our world.    We're talking about real children in the real world being slaughtered instead of protected.  We're talking about vibrant heartbeats being ended.  We're talking about vulnerable little bodies being maimed and thrown in the garbage.  We're talking about red blood being spilt. You can try to hide it under whatever semantic guise you want, but that's not healthcare--that's murder. Hippocratic oath, anyone?  More like hypocritical. There is an ineffable darkness in the soul of a med...

Regarding Toxic Masculinity

I've tried to ignore the subject so far, perfectly aware that this is an issue where balance and level-headedness are rare and difficult, but I'm going against my better judgment and giving it a shot.  Here are my thoughts on toxic masculinity.   Please bear in mind that they are coming from an evangelical Christian perspective. 1) If you think that toxic masculinity (or perverted masculinity or corrupted masculinity...call it what you will) doesn't exist, you're blind or have been very fortunate. 2) If you believe that toxic masculinity exists, but deny that toxic femininity (or toxic feminism) exists, you're blind and a hypocrite. 3) If you equivocate toxic masculinity with masculinity, you're part of the problem, not the solution. 4) If you don't believe that the woman is the weaker vessel, you are not a Bible-believing Christian, nor have you watched the WNBA (I can't blame you for that). 5) If you think that women being the weaker vessel i...

The Scandal of Self-Denial

" Woe unto those who call evil good and good evil..." Those are some powerful, frightening words.  They are also increasingly descriptive of the moral condition of the United States of America. We live in a postmodern age (I suppose we're past postmodern by now). Our religion is self.  Our ideals are happiness and personal fulfillment.  Our creed, so unyieldingly maintained, is "Be yourself!" We glorify the present, the temporary, the vain. We have institutionalized selfishness.  We are absolutely obsessed with ourselves.  We're so obsessed with self that we're obsessed with other people being obsessed with themselves. Morality is relative, subjective, individually-defined. It has become clear that the only immoral act, the only behavior that we will not tolerate, is that which elicits guilt.  Naked dudes dancing around child drag queens?  Yeah, that's cool.  Telling dudes that they're dudes and not girls?  Nah...that's intoler...
